Sei Network has revealed its latest technological advancement through the integration of the Model Context Protocol (MCP), a standardized interface developed by Anthropic. This move is aimed at strengthening the connection between artificial intelligence systems and blockchain networks, streamlining how AI applications access and interact with onchain data.
The Model Context Protocol is designed as a universal API that empowers AI systems, including autonomous AI agents, to engage securely with a wide range of data environments, services, and digital tools. With this integration, AI agents gain standardized capabilities to access blockchain states, interpret smart contract variables, and monitor onchain activities such as token movements and trading behaviors. The collaboration is expected to significantly lower the technical complexity traditionally associated with embedding AI into blockchain-based operations.
Simplifying AI Access to Blockchain Infrastructure
Before the adoption of MCP, developing AI applications capable of interacting with blockchain systems posed several challenges. Developers were often required to write custom code tailored to specific blockchains, which hindered scalability and interoperability. Additionally, AI systems lacked a uniform way to validate blockchain data or perform complex, multi-step operations in the decentralized finance (DeFi) space.
Sei Network’s integration with MCP addresses these issues by offering a streamlined infrastructure that simplifies blockchain access for AI, enabling applications that can operate more efficiently and securely. The adoption of MCP provides three core enhancements for AI-blockchain collaboration.
Key Enhancements Driving the Integration
The first of these enhancements involves standardized access to blockchain data. AI agents, through MCP, no longer need individualized APIs for every blockchain function. They can now interact with Sei using a consistent interface, which supports applications requiring real-time data access, such as smart portfolio management tools, AI-driven DeFi bots, and chat-based AI agents capable of executing live transactions.

Second, the protocol introduces verifiable action capabilities. AI agents can now generate cryptographic proofs of their interactions with the blockchain, enabling greater transparency and accountability. This feature is particularly valuable in multi-agent environments and AI services that depend on traceable transaction histories.
Third, MCP allows AI agents to operate across multiple DeFi protocols through a unified interface. This makes it possible to execute cross-platform strategies efficiently, enhancing the development of advanced financial tools like AI-managed portfolios that interact with various decentralized systems simultaneously.
Supporting Developer Innovation through Incentives
To accelerate adoption and experimentation, the Sei Development Foundation has launched an AI-focused hackathon. With a prize pool of up to $10,000, the competition encourages developers to build innovative applications utilizing the Sei MCP Kit. Installation of the kit is designed to be developer-friendly, with support available on platforms like Cursor, Windsurf, and Claude. Comprehensive documentation has also been provided to assist developers in deploying the solution across different use cases and environments.
Through this integration, Sei Network is positioning itself as a leading force in bridging AI with blockchain infrastructure. By leveraging MCP’s standardized approach, the network aims to enable the next generation of intelligent, verifiable, and scalable decentralized applications.
